The medicine of Novartis Hungária Ltd. won the “Drug of the Year 2025” award, which was presented by Prof. Dr Zsuzsanna Helyes, President of HUPHAR, to Colette Matz, Managing Director of Novartis Hungary Ltd., at the HUPHAR2026 International Conference on 3 June 2026.
At the award ceremony, Prof. Dr Zsuzsanna Helyes stated:
“For us, the Drug of the Year Award is not merely a professional recognition, but also a confirmation that scientific innovation can bring real, tangible benefits to patients. From the very beginning, the aim of our Society has been to ensure that such breakthrough and patient-centred therapies become available as widely as possible in Hungary and contribute to the continuous development of patient care in Hungary.”
Upon receiving the award, Colette Matz highlighted:
“SMA is a rare and severe genetic disease. For a long time, affected families had to cope with it without having access to a therapy that could help them. With our gene therapy recognised by the Drug of the Year 2025 Award, we can offer them hope, as this one-time treatment can positively influence the course of a child’s life.”
She added: “This recognition is dedicated to the committed and professional work of the employees of Novartis Hungary, who work every day to ensure that patients have access to the most advanced therapies. I am extremely proud of what they have achieved.”
