EXCURSIONS CANCELLED DUE TO EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS

The excursions that will take place the day after the conference, on 10 June 2023 from 08:30 am, are listed below.

Click HERE to download the description of the excursions.

  1. “Kőris-Mocsár” hike (12 km, 496 m ascent, 4 hours)

Recommended equipment: well-worn, comfortable shoes (ideally hiking boots), at least half a litre of water in a non-spillable canteen, raincoat, rucksack.

The hike is 12.8 km long, with a 492 m ascent, and lasts 3 hours 30 minutes without breaks.

We start from the Hotel Ozon. We follow the yellow sign towards Mátraháza and then make a small detour to the Kecske hill.  From here you can clearly see Kékes and the Mátra Sanatorium.

We arrive to Mátraháza on the yellow and yellow cross signs.  From here, our route leads upwards to the western and north-western side of Kékes. Initially we take the “Déli” ski trail (which slopes almost exactly westwards, diverging slightly northwards), then we take the yellow cross signpost to the so-called “Pince Street”.

The yellow cross sign goes uphill at first, then roughly level in the beech forest of the Matra Forest Reserve.

At the place called Gabi’s death (where a cart driver named Gabi once fell from his chariot), we take the blue cross signpost that crosses our path and descend towards the resting place of the Pisztrángos lake.

From here, follow the red cross sign towards the ash swamp.

The ash swamp is no longer a swamp, but rather a marshland.  Legend has it that the „Kőrös Mocsár” used to roar when the weather turned colder. Strangely, the legend is true.  When the cold air blows in and the wind picks up, the wind hits the steep hillside above the swamp called Sombokor and makes a roaring sound.

From the swamp, we return to the hotel on the yellow circle and yellow bar signs, the last mile and a half of the same stretch where we walked at the start of the hike.

  1. “Eagle-Stone-Kékes” Hike (18 km, 915 m, 6 hours)

Recommended equipment: well-worn, comfortable shoes (ideally hiking boots), at least half a litre of water in a non-spillable canteen, raincoat, rucksack.

The hike is 18.2 km long, with a 915 m ascent, and lasts 5 hours without breaks.

At the place called Gabi’s death (where a cart driver named Gabi once fell from his chariot), we say goodbye to the participants of the shorter distance, who head downhill on the blue cross sign that crosses our path.  We continue on the yellow cross sign towards the „Rózsaszállás”.

From here we will take the yellow sign and walk to the Markazi Gate.

From the Markazi Gate we follow the National Blue Trail, first up to the Disznó Stone and then to the Eagle Stone, not very steep but a steady climb. The route takes you through a high mountain illusion, past steep slopes, cliffs and numerous viewpoints.

After leaving the saddle of the Dark Marsh, the path becomes steeper and we reach the Blue Lake.

From Kékestető, the route is easy at first, then steeply downhill, following the red cross signposts of the Somor stream valley.

At the Nékámszállás, take the yellow circle sign and then the yellow sign again to reach Hotel Ózon.

The Nékámszállás was a former tourist hut, of which only its buttresses remain today, next to the Gyökeres spring, which offers delicious cold water.

Everyone can participate in the organised activities only at their own risk.
